Episode 74: Exodus and Near Eastern Creation Narratives
Marvin Sweeney is a professor of Hebrew Bible at the Claremont School of Theology in Los Angeles. He’s the author of Exodus - The Contextual Critical Commentary, which argues that the book of Exodus is a classic example of an ancient Near Eastern creation narrative in which the God of Israel uses various elements of creation to defeat Pharaoh, who was considered a god in Egypt, and that the story represents a conflict between two deities for control of creation.
